72 hours

I was still in Nueva when I received a call from my coordinator. She asked me if I could handle a Chemistry summer class.I was hesitant at first because I will be spending the rest of my summer vacation in school. However, I realized that this could be an opportunity to keep my mind busy. Besides, I want to condition my self for the incoming school year. So I decided to end my vacation .
My first encounter with the boy was not so impressive. He was late and I waited for an hour.
I have to admit that I was judging him already because I have heard negative feedbacks about him.
The boy is towering at 6'1", according to him he was a basketbal varsity player before. He handed me his schedule. Oh it's 72 hours that means we have to endure each other's company for almost a month.

One morning, I caught him glancing at me while he was answering the worksheets. I asked the boy if there's a problem. He asked me if we could talk after he answered all his worksheets. I agreed but in one condition, he should get perfect scores. Amazingly,  when I checked his papers, he didn't have any mistakes.

It's Chem time!
Name: ______________________                             Score: ______________

1)What is the volume of a tank that can hold 18 754 kg of methanol whose density is 0.788g/cm3

2) My gas tank in my car has a total volume of 68 L. The manual says the gas gauge light will come on when there are only 5 L remaining in the tank and that the car will not be able to draw on the last 2 L in the tank. Practically speaking, what is the functional volume of the gas tank? If I ran out of gas, the car won't go, and I put in 5 L of gas, what is the total volume of
gas in my tank? If 5 L of gas has a mass of 450 kg, what is the mass of the gas in my tank? What is the density of the gas?
3) Instructions: Fill in the table, color all the metals blue, nonmetals green and metalloids pink.
Periodic Table Worksheet
4)      Balance this:  H3PO4 + Ca(OH)2 → Ca3(PO4)2 + H2O
5)
The alpha particle scattering experiment was carried out by
E. Rutherford
J. J. Thomson
J. Chadwick
E. Goldstein

I asked him: "What is your question?"
I almost laughed after hearing his questions: "Miss, do you still remember your first love?" "What do girls want in a guy?"
I was surprised because I did not expect that a teenager like him would ask questions like that. From then on, he seemed to be more comfortable with me. He started asking more questions about girls, about life and anything under the sun. He expressed his deepest regrets, his triumphs and darkest secrets. I noticed that he became more receptive to the lessons that I taught him because he seldom committed mistakes in any of his worksheets. He would ask me small favors such as watching the video of his favorite model during breaktime and even giving in to his LSS (last song syndrome). See the power of motivation. Everyday had been a teachable moment not only for him but also for me. We should also give teenagers a chance to be heard and be understood.

Today is the last day of our summer sessions. I can't say that we became close friends but at least we made the most out of our time together as student and mentor. I won't forget this experience. I never expected that 72 hours of summer session would give me the opportunity to learn some of the most significant lessons in life. Above all, I learned these from a boy.

  Chem Jokes:
Why did the ice cube get divorced?
> >His wife said he was too cold.

What did the match tell the flame? > >Baby, you make me lose my head.

Why did the white bear dissolve in water?
> >Because it was polar.
What do you call a tooth in a glass of water? A one molar solution.

According to a chemist, why is the world so diverse? Because it's made up of alkynes of people.
